I’m Dana, a 20-something American from Newark, Delaware who moved to Wien, Austria (known to us English-speakers as Vienna) after college to become an au pair and see the world.
What’s an au pair?
An au pair is a foreigner who moves in with a family to help with the children and usually teach them a language, and occasionally help with the household as well.
When I was looking to become an au pair, I didn’t find a whole lot of personal experience or anecdotes on the web. What I did find often had negative things to say about the experience, so I was a little worried. I ignored the haters and the doubters and took the leap anyway, thank goodness! Once I got to Vienna, I was excited to see all it has to offer. It’s a huge city with so much to do! Aside from exploring Vienna’s many mysteries, I’m also traveling around Europe–hopefully soon reaching the other continents as well!
With that being said, that’s why this blog is here. I’m here to talk to those who are curious about the great city of Vienna, prospective and current au pairs, and general travelers!
